My Favorite Things (Post #1)

This list took me a while to figure out, but here is a list of my favorite books.
  1. The Da Vinci Code
  2. The Devil in the White City
  3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  4. Catching Fire
  5. What is the What
  6. The Other Side of the River
  7. Into the Wild
  8. Angels and Demons
  9. In Cold Blood
  10. The Last Olympian
Each one of the books on this list is without a doubt in my mind some of the best books I have ever read. They all have an amazing plot and interesting characters that make for a really great read. With the exception of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Catching Fire, all of the books on this list have been books that I had to read for school. While it can be annoying at times to read to a certain point by a date, these  books were really interesting and kept me reading with an interesting plot. The books that aren't school related are part of the whole teenage fiction genre. Even though I find the genre to be a little overrated, these books were still very interesting and had a unique story. The Da Vinci Code is the number one spot on my list mainly because of everything that happened in it. Its story was outstanding and it had unbelievable twists in it that kept me reading every page. The same thing can be said about Devil in the White City with the added benefit that it was all an actual event.

From this list and from what I've said previously, I'm the type of person who enjoys a book with an amazing story. While its true that an outstanding plot isn't the only reason to like a book, I personally only look forward to that in a book. Yes, amazing characters and hidden symbolism do make books great, but overall I look for an interesting and intriguing story. This year during AP Lit, I really hope that we read some books that have an amazing story and me reading and wanting more.

  1. A lot of people tend to despise the books we read in school, but I agree with you, if we didn't have to read them with crazy deadlines and all that fun stuff, I feel as though everyone would appreciate them a lot more. I also enjoy a lot of the books we read in school. There have been a few I honestly hated, but for the most part, they have all had pretty interesting stories. I especially liked "What is the What" this year. Its story was very intriguing to me. Nice post! :)
